Escape to the tranquillity of Valkfontein, a stunning 700-hectare working farm nestled in the heart of the Mpumalanga Trout Triangle. Just two and a half hours from Johannesburg, our charming, self-catering, pet-friendly cottages—Troutwoods, Troutwaters and Die Plaashuis – offer the perfect peaceful retreat where you can unwind, relax, and reconnect with nature.

Situated between the picturesque towns of Machadodorp, Belfast, and Dullstroom, our cottages provide an ideal base for exploring the breathtaking beauty of the area, renowned for its lush landscapes and crystal-clear streams.

A Unique Farm Experience

As part of the Valkfontein farm, you’ll be surrounded by the peaceful rhythm of rural life. Take a leisurely stroll through the farm, home to a variety of farm animals and several species of game, and soak in the beautiful views while enjoying the tranquillity that only a working farm can offer.

The farm is rich in fauna and flora, with each season bringing new wildflowers to admire and spectacular birds to tick off your list. Our three dams, fed by a perennial crystal-clear natural spring, remain strong year-round and are stocked annually with Rainbow and Brown Trout as well as Bass. The farm operates on a catch-and-release basis. Whether you’re fishing, hiking, biking, or simply relaxing on the porch, Troutwoods, Troutwaters and Die Plaashuis provide the perfect setting for a rejuvenating escape.

Activities

TroutWoods Cottage is set on a 700ha well maintained working farm located on the edge of the Mpumalanga escarpment with spectacular views to soak in.

Valkfontein farm is home to an assortment of farm animals as well as several species of game.

African fish eagles and a variety of water birds can be spotted at the dams and listen out for the call of the Blue Crane flying by.

Our dams are fed by a perennial, crystal clear natural spring that flows strongly all year round. There are 3 dams, stocked yearly, with rainbow and brown trout and guests are welcome to fish in the dams. We operate on a ‘catch and release’ basis.
